 SPOTLIGHT

Each week we will feature an interesting leader of the Filipino events community - from producers to choreographers to venue operators to performers & more. There are so many amazing personalities and creators and we are excited to share these stories!

Name: Lanz Maui Chua

Role: Former International Trade Fairs Associate, European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines

Describe your role: It’s a multifaceted role, and it was guided by our chamber’s goal to promote Philippine interests, talents and cultures in Europe and vice versa. My main responsibility was to be the Philippines’ sales representative for a German trade fair organizer (Koelnmesse). With this, I generated leads by reaching out to companies in certain industries like food and gaming to participate in events from bazaars, expositions to other opportunities to expose them to the European market. I converted these leads into clients by selling them exhibition spaces, providing visa endorsements on behalf of the chamber, creating itineraries, connecting them to travel agencies and giving marketing assistance for trade fairs.

Favorite part of your job: I believe that my favorite part of the job has something to do with my interactions with the companies. As I offer trade fair spaces, I get to know more companies and their nature of business. I get to learn various industries that I have never interacted with in the past. That gives me the knowledge to grow professionally and culturally.

Best performance you ever had and why?
My best performance can be attributed to ANUGA. It is one of the biggest trade fair conference in the world that tackles the food industry. I got to study the trade fair and the Philippine companies that constantly participate in that event. In selling trade fair spaces, I had the opportunity to attend Philippine trade fairs (Bakery Fair) and interacted with the companies that would really want to participate at ANUGA. I also got to interact with the organizers of ANUGA and I felt a sense of belongingness as part of a contributing factor for the trade fair.

Any upcoming events you're excited for and why?
I’ve attended various trade fairs in my life that ranges from cars, food, toys and collectible items. Personally, I am excited to go to trade fairs for toys, specifically for anime. In fact, I have a mini toy museum at home. I collect figures that are One Piece-related because One piece is my favorite anime. I look forward to expanding my collection of figurines by attending trade fairs for such.

Name a favorite movie or song you're liking recently:
My favorite movie is Kingsman because it displays the British trope of being prim and proper while executing action moves. It’s a Bond-like film that is more up to my generation.

BIG BRAIN MOMENT

Interesting facts & trivia from the Philippines culture & events community

Trivia Question

Answer: Nata de coco. This coconut-based delicacy was invented by Filipina chemist Teódula Kalaw África as a natural fiber food product that became a top major export of the Philippines. It can serve as candy, sinkers for drinks like juice and milk tea and toppings for desserts like halo halo, ice cream and pudding. Many health benefits can be found in nata de coco as well because it contains calcium, vitamin C and potassium and probiotic properties from the fermentation process it undergoes.

Interesting Culture Fact!

However, some rural markets still follow some of the practices that milk peddlers did in the past because they are remembered as professional, punctual and efficient in their job.
