SPOTLIGHT
Each week we will feature an interesting leader of the Filipino events community - from producers to choreographers to venue operators to performers & more. There are so many amazing personalities and creators and we are excited to share these stories!
Name: Gab Mesina
Role: Operations Manager
Describe your role: As the operations manager for NOOK Coworking Studio, I'm responsible for ensuring smooth day-to-day operations in the space by managing facilities and amenities, coordinating events and programs, and fostering a collaborative and productive environment for our members and our team. I rely heavily on being able to multitask, problem-solve, and communicate effectively.
Favorite part of your job: My favorite part is definitely the community--it feels like being part of an ensemble cast of a sitcom. Working at NOOK is like being part of something bigger every day. From being able to get to know a wide range of people to learning more about their different interests, hobbies, and perspectives; NOOK has helped me connect with like-minded individuals and broadened my views on the world.
Best event you ever went to and why?
Every Trivia Night we have at NOOK is definitely for the books. It's a time where everyone gets to be competitively nerdy and rowdy and that energy is just so infectious and fun.
Any upcoming events you're excited for and why?
I'm personally excited for the entire month of May at NOOK since it will be our 4th year and we're treating it as a month-long birthday bash with live music shows, game nights, promos, and program activations throughout.
Current obsession: I've recently taken it upon myself to self-study the Korean language, going through a list of A24 films on my watch list, working on my health and fitness, and for random relaxation I've been super hooked into watching this Youtuber named Masaru who is a very charming and informational fisherman in Okinoerabujima 😅
BIG BRAIN MOMENT
Interesting facts & trivia from the Philippines culture & events community
Trivia Question
Answer: Neil Sedaka All-Star Show (1960) was the first international concert held in Araneta Coliseum, which was once the largest covered coliseum in the world. The world-class pop superstar graced the Big Dome with his presence, along with the Shepherd Sisters, Hilltoppers and Les Spencers.
Interesting Culture Fact!
The Jackson Brothers performed for six nights at the Folk Arts Theater and the Araneta Center back in 1976 and eventually went back to Manila in 2014 to perform in the Theatre at Solaire. They were supposed to have their third show in 2020, but it was postponed due to the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
