 SPOTLIGHT

Each week we will feature an interesting leader of the Filipino events community - from producers to choreographers to venue operators to performers & more. There are so many amazing personalities and creators and we are excited to share these stories!

Name: Abigail O. Hapal

Organization Name: GoodGovPH

Describe your role: In GoodGovPH, we conduct initiatives on community-building, civic engagement, education and training, and policy advocacy to champion good governance in the Philippines. My work is to supervise the organization’s administrative departments and oversee the day-to-day operations.

Favorite part of your job: I value collective impact very much, so I love to see our members grow through their experience in the organization and when they get to bring these skills and knowledge outside the organization to make an impact to their respective local communities. I also cherish those moments when we hear stories from different people of how our initiatives impacted their lives. As a volunteer advocate, we are not after anything but to see the change in our community, so the feeling of fulfillment is the only gift that we receive in return but is more than enough already.

Best performance you ever had and why?
I am proud of leading the murals project of GoodGovPH under our campaign, “Mabuting Pamamahala Araw-Araw”, which calls that the good governance advocacy should be part of everyone’s lifestyles. We organized the murals because wanted to bring back good governance to the streets - where ordinary Filipinos pass by everyday. Ever since, this has stirred conversations about good governance on-ground.

Any upcoming events you're excited for and why?
I am in the progress of developing a campaign that builds a young citizen-led effort that holds public officers accountable through democratic spaces. We aim to create a culture in the Filipino society where it is normal to criticize your leaders as everyone has the right to do so.

Current obsession: Right now, I am obsessed with any drink that is matcha. It helps me get fired up for all the advocacy work that I do.

On a serious note -

Recently, I have been reading Republic Acts that changed the country for the good, and even those laws that only worsened the situation of the country. I do this to get inspiration as a student policy-maker in the De La Salle University - Dasmariñas. It’s like a fuel to my passion.
