The Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. is proud to announce the second run of its bakery event!  SPOTLIGHT

Each week we will feature an interesting leader of the Filipino events community - from producers to choreographers to venue operators to performers & more. There are so many amazing personalities and creators and we are excited to share these stories!

Name: Francesca Alexis Santiago

Role: Philippine Financial Summit 2023 Co-Chairperson - UP Junior Finance Association (UP JFA)

Describe your role: The Philippine Financial Summit (PFS) is UP JFA’s flagship event that promotes financial literacy and nation-building amongst Filipino youth. This year, we were able to gather more than 700 students from Manila and Cebu who were eager to accelerate their fin-journey. As the co-chairperson, I was in the forefront of the overall planning and execution of the event. I mainly oversaw negotiations with company partners, digital marketing on our social media platforms, and our very own PFS website.

Favorite part of your job: I love meeting new people! Working on PFS for months has given me the opportunity to collaborate with hardworking, purpose-driven individuals who’ve genuinely touched my life in one way or another. It was also really moving to see our participants face-to-face after having online conferences for the longest time due to the pandemic.

Best performance you ever had and why?
I think the UP Fair is always a memorable experience as a college student. Not only can attendees enjoy several OPM class acts for a minimal fee, but by taking part in the event, they also support the various advocacies that UP Fair stands for. We get great music and fun for a great cause!

Any upcoming events you're excited for and why?
The Eras Tour! I’m happy to share that I survived The Great War! I’ve been a Swiftie since I was young, so I can’t wait to experience one of the biggest tours in history. On a nerdier note, it would be fun to observe up-close how a production of this scale operates and all comes together.

What's a valuable tip you have for fellow events community leaders/organizers?
You always have to be on your toes during your event. Having contingencies is crucial, but in the scenario that something unexpected and out-of-plan happens, you must be able to think and act quickly. Be sensitive, adaptable, and alert to any signs of concern.

Current obsession: Gossip Girl! I saw the whole show for the first time recently, and I couldn't help but binge-watch all the episodes!

BIG BRAIN MOMENT

Interesting facts & trivia from the Philippines culture & events community

Trivia Question

Answer: Bamboo. With Proclamation No. 1401, we celebrate Philippine Bamboo Month every September in order to promote bamboo as a plant and to spread national awareness of its products, which will help Filipinos realize its importance to the agricultural sector of the country. This proclamation is part of the 8 priority clusters that was presented by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). DTI acknowledges bamboo's purpose in construction and infrastructure materials, as well as food. Additionally, they see it as an essential raw material for handicrafts and furniture products that can compete on an international scale.

Interesting Culture Fact!

Examples of the legendary apparitions of Mother Mary’s representations in the Philippines are Nuestra Señora del Santísimo Rosario - La Naval de Manila (Our Lady of La Naval), Nuestra Señora de Peñafrancia (Our Lady of Penafrancia), Nuestra Señora de la Porta Vaga (Our Lady of Porta Vaga), Nuestra Señora del Santísimo Rosario de Manaoag (Our Lady of Manaoag), Nuestra Señora de Salvación (Our Lady of Salvation, or Our Lady of Light), Nuestra Señora de la Paz y Buen Viaje (Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage).
