 SPOTLIGHT

Each week we will feature an interesting leader of the Filipino events community - from producers to choreographers to venue operators to performers & more. There are so many amazing personalities and creators and we are excited to share these stories!

Name: Canter Marciano

Role: Representative at Kiki House of Marciano PH Chapter

Describe your role: Mainly organizes activities and events related to the Philippine Ballroom Community and the Kiki House of Marciano PH Chapter. We hone young LGBTQIA+ talents and provide them a safe space to express their creativity thru fashion, music, art, performances, and dance.

Favorite part of your job: Seeing young queer kids living out their fantasies and dreams thru the balls we conceptualize and organize.

Best performance you ever had and why?
Bibbidi Bobbidi Ball 2023 of course! The event was a venue for the kids to live out their fairy tale fantasy, wear their favorite ball gowns and costumes, and also empower them thru whatever creative expression they have.

Any upcoming events you're excited for and why?
Any and all future Balls here in the Philippines! The Philippines' scene is still young when it comes to the ballroom but we are slowly growing. Based on the international guests we invited here, the scene here is actually one of the best ballroom scene in Asia! People from other countries go to the PH just to watch or walk the balls we organize here.

What's a valuable tip you have for fellow events community leaders/organizers?
Know the community and create more safe spaces for the community to thrive!

If you could hang out with any cultural figure from history, who would it be?
Marsha P. Johnson! I want to know who she is and to understand her struggles as gay liberations activist and drag queen during her time.
