The country's most popular blood compact known as "sanduguan" took place between Boholano chieftain, Rajah Sikatuna and Spanish conquistador, Miguel López de Legazpi in the 16th century. The Sandugo Festival commemorates this event every July in Tagbilaran, Bohol.
